Culture, People & Impact

Culture and Tourism – Our Present Ambition
Eri Ji (New Yam Festival) held every August, is the crown jewel of Onicha’s festival cycle. During this time, the special Orie Oku Afo market is held—a sacred event where all harvested yam must be presented before the king for blessings before it can be sold or eaten. Nkwo Festival, celebrated in Onwa Nkwo (July), ushers in mid-year reflection. Aju Festival involves the ritual sacrifice of a full-grown dog to the ancestors (ndi ichie), performed by every household head—invoking blessings and ancestral presence.

Onicha Igboeze Trailblazers
Rooted in a legacy of leadership and valiant warriors, Onicha’s trailblazers today include academics, visionaries, and diaspora professionals—all of whom continue the legacy of conquest, now through knowledge, innovation, and enterprise.

Onyicha Academia, Entrepreneurs and Elitist
The traditional wealth of yams and cattle has given way to wealth in education, tech, commerce, and global networking. Many sons and daughters of Onicha Igboeze now lead globally in various sectors—remaining connected to their homeland through investment and advocacy.
