Onicha Igboeze Smart City: Project Album

Visual Blueprint of a Modern Heritage-Centered Future Compiled by the Onicha Igboeze Smart City Development Foundation

Proposed Egunkwo Elephant Square of the Smart City

Description: Slated to become the ceremonial epicenter of Onicha Igboeze, the Egunkwo Elephant Square will be a model civic plaza blending modern architecture with traditional symbolism. Located on the grounds of the historic Orie market, it will host festivals, town hall events, and serve as a cultural museum space — celebrating the strength, unity, and wisdom symbolized by the elephant.

Orie Okuafor – Once-a-Year Market of the New Yam Festival

Description: The Orie Okuafor market, held once a year, is a sacred economic and cultural gathering linked to the New Yam Festival. It embodies traditional commerce, festive rituals, and social unity. Plans are underway to redesign this space as a cultural heritage market — combining modern amenities with traditional aesthetics.

Egu Agbafor – Special Site for Institutions

Description: Marked for institutional development, Egu Agbafor will become the educational and innovation hub of the Smart City. Proposed developments include higher institutions, tech incubation centers, vocational hubs, and digital learning academies to drive intellectual and economic growth.

The Vast Smart Agro-Mechanized Lands in Kpolokpo

Description: This expansive tract of land in Kpolokpo is designated for agro-industrial revolution. With smart farming technologies, solar-powered irrigation, and agribusiness incubation hubs, this project will empower local farmers and drive the city’s food security and export capacity.

The Ogbamgba Reserved Forest

Description: An ancient grove of spiritual and ecological value, the Ogbamgba Reserved Forest is one of the Smart City’s preserved zones. It serves as a spiritual sanctuary for ancestral rites, biodiversity conservation, and eco-tourism, protecting the soul of the land as modernization unfolds.

Cultural Antiquity of the New Yam Festival

Description: The New Yam Festival — an annual celebration of harvest, gratitude, and continuity — is deeply tied to the sacred spaces of Ogbamgba. The Smart City’s vision includes formalizing this heritage event as a globally recognized cultural attraction, with dedicated plazas and visitor experiences rooted in authenticity.

This visual album presents not just a dream, but a structured vision. A blend of tradition and transformation that makes Onicha Igboeze the beacon of smart development in Ebonyi State and beyond.
